PERSONALITY

Closed off and bitter, Aer has withdrawn into herself, finding little enjoyment in company. While not completely aversed to social interaction, she likes to keep them to a bare minimum. She isn't fond of revealing too much about herself and would prefer to keep it that way. Her tactics for keeping other cats at a distance involve harsh words, a cold demeanor and if need be, simply walking out of the scene. Aer would only ever resort to violence in a life-or-death situation, a pacifism caused by her violent past and a refusal to relive any of it. It might be the main reason Aer chose to lead a reclusive life, believing that the presence of others will ultimately cause more strive and heartbreak. She has a hard time placing her trust into anyone, especially tribe-cats and anyone involved with them - believing that they will ultimately clash time and time again. Aer will show little friendliness towards tribers and believes only their young to be innocent, they couldn't possibly be blamed for the circumstances of their birth. As much as she's concerned, the rest of the tribe-cats are putrid warmongers, although this is more out of fear than disdain. If the tribes have changed during the years of her self-inflicted exile, she's unaware of it - she has been away for far too long.

At her very core, Aer is still as kind as she was in her kithood. Empathetic to a fault, the tragic circumstances of her past have since conditioned her into shoving those feelings aside to protect herself. She used to deeply feel for the plight of others, having a hard time coping with their suffering. To this day, that very trait was key to her self-preservation. It helped Aer keep herself out of dangerous situations, being able to read the mood of a situation and thus dodging trouble. Her kind heart hasn't seen much use in the last few years of her lone travel, and will probably not be wasted on any tribe-cat either. If she were to befriend anyone during her stay within the tribe-territories, she would definitely show some of her residual warmth. While Aer wouldn't completely drop her guard and blindely trust them, one can expect to see her more emotional side. During her kithood she had a hard time keeping them under a lid, but nowadays she has an easier time controlling her emotions. If need be, Aer can be rather charismatic. Her empathetic nature makes it easy for her to connect with others and has, consequently, an easier time choosing her words.

Above all, Aer has retained her excessive curiosity. That hasn't changed at all. Years of leading a nomadic life, her main way of passing her time was spent with learning as much about the lands around her as possible. She loves snooping around and sticking her nose where it doesn't belong. Only now, she's a lot more subtle about it than she used to be as a kit. Aer wouldn't openly try to look into someone elses affairs, but if she were to overhear things... Well. If the opportunity arose, a little meddling wouldn't hurt every once in a while.

BACKSTORY

Aer and her siblings were born on the precipice of strife. Their parents were the Silver-Water and Silver-Air of their time and their birth was more of an accident than anything. Aujir kept the kits in Water-Tribe, and thus they were raised there. She left the nursery as soon as she was able, so Aer didn't get to see much of her mother afterwards. Their father didn't keep in contact with them and Aujir preferred to keep it that way. She never told them who he was, nor did she disclose this information with anyone else. The kits were raised by various Water-Tribe queens, causing trouble around camp. Often would Aer try to interact with their mom but she had little time to deal with her kittens. She was often out of camp and upon asking fellow Water-Tribers, she only ever received vague answers. Aer was to never really connect with her mother before she gained her tattoo and thus joined Air-Tribe. Her only brother, Föhn, joined the tribe with her while her sisters stayed in Water-Tribe.

Back then, Aer never really realized the Silver-Air was her father. Her first interaction with him was rather awkward, but he was kind to her and her brother, making sure the fresh apprentices were feeling comfortable within their new tribe. She was assigned her mentor, who was the Gold-Air (Yellow, back then) at the time. She never really connected much with him either, but her training as a Warrior was never neglected. Aer didn't enjoy her profession too much, but never hated it enough to complain either. She connected with a few fellow apprentices and met her siblings again - Life in Air-Tribe was pretty unremarkable otherwise.

Things changed when The Alliance was formed. Often would Water-Tribers stroll into Air-Tribe camp, and often would Aer be sent to patrol in Water-Tribe territory. She even got to see her mother more often, but she never had much time to even regard her Air-Tribe children. Things got even more tense when Shadow-Tribe got into the mix. There was a general unease over Air-Tribe camp, and even the Silver-Air seemed uncomfortable with the new arrangements. Aer didn't like this situation one bit, and as if she had known, things went from bad to worse when the Silver-Fire openly opposed Aujir's proposal of uniting all the tribes at the next gathering. Tensions slowly turned to war.

Through the Alliance, Aer had the chance to interact with her sister Neith once more. Her other siblings Föhn and Vitani weren't around as much, although she did enjoy their presence whenever she caught them. She also met Damian, a Shadow-Tribe apprentice, sibling to her fellow Air-Tribe apprentice Maika. One could probably call them friends, who unfortunately got themselves into trouble.

The group of Aer, Neith, Maika and Damian had been sent to Water-Tribe along with many other tribers to attend one of Aujir's councils. A little bored, the group split off from the gathering to snoop around, ultimately ending up in Aujir's den. Inside, Neith and Maika were the first ones to discover the corpse of a Shadow-Triber. It looked like he was... being eaten. Visibly shocked, the two cats fled the the den and shortly after Aer and the others filed in to see what was riling them up so much. A mistake, as she would realize too late. Neith was already on her way to call out their mother in front of the assembled cats. It went about as well as one would expect. Neith was publically exiled in front of the assemble. Aer tried to push herself through the crowd to reach her sister, thinking Aujir would execute her on the spot. She was pinned to the ground as she watched it happen. Neith cried to the others to flee, and so they did. All of them found themselves exiled in the end, but the Silver-Fire, Maika and Damian's mother, took them into her ranks of the Rebellion.

The war reached its climax. The Rebellion finally confronted the Alliance in one last battle. There were rumors that the Silver-Air disappeared and that the Silver-Water had lost all sense - but maybe she could still be stopped. In a bout of naivete Neith and Aer confronted their mother in midst of the battle. They weren't sure what they were trying to achieve - their mother was beyond all reason. The confrontation ended in a fight that Aer and Neith lost, Aujir had struck Aer with an icicle, impaling her. While nothing vital was hit the wound was large and forced Neith to disengage, dragging her wounded sibling away while maintaining the ice, making sure it wouldn't melt before the wound could be treated. They were desperate to find a healer, but they were all occupied with the war. Their search brought them to the very borders of the tribe lands, where they finally found a rogue - a gray former Air-triber with a missing leg. He looked intimidating but was kind and quick to help. Directing them to the very healer that had helped him many seasons ago, Aer was stabilized. The lack of healing-powers would require Aer to rest for a whole while, though. Considering the healers den was a fair distance from the spirits' territory, it ultimately meant they were going to be rogues. Neith had no desire to go back, while Aer was a little conflicted.

After a week, Neith had gone to scout the lands. She promised to come back for her wounded sister so they could leave their old home behind together, but she never did. During the time she was gone, Aer had recovered and stayed with the stray healer to wait. The gray rogue had already left, but she supposed she could at least repay the healers kindness with hunting for her. Days, then weeks passed and Neith still hadn't returned. Aer was worried that her sister got hurt during her travels and eventually set out to find her, tired of waiting. Even after weeks of travel, she could find no trace of her sister. Fear eventually gave in to anger and she wondered if Neith had left her behind on purpose.

By the time Aer gave up her search, she considered returning to the tribes. But the closer she came to the borders, anxiety rose within her. A considerable amount of time had passed, and Aer was afraid. What if things had changed beyond recognition? What if... There was a new leader? Would they let her back in?

She wandered North, staying on the move and on her own. Every encounter with another stray cat or even group had been a bad experience and soon Aer learned to avoid them completely. Beyond casual passings, she was alone. She never claimed a territory either. Aer wandered and she learned about the land around her, eventually coming to enjoy her solitude and wanderlust. Days turned into weeks into months into seasons.

Aer had felt a strange sensation when her tattoo vanished but only realized what had happened when she saw her own reflection. A quick pang of worry had shot through her, but at the same time it felt liberating. Over the years trauma had faded into resentment and she no longer held love for her place of birth. A little while after, Ezrael had found her when Eden fell. Aer was shocked to find her father, as a spirit nonetheless. She was wary at first, but her curiosity made her listen all too quickly. He told her everything - his experience during the Golden Butterfly war and then the Alliance. He told her about all the misery and yet all his love for the tribes. Aer was baffled that after all, he had still loved Air-tribe and the tribes as a whole dearly. He wasn't openly disappointed Aer had left them behind, but she was pretty sure he was hinting at it. Ezrael stayed with her until Eden reformed, calling back its spirits one by one. The last bit of advice offered to her was to consider returning to the tribes. She dismissed him, but the idea stuck with her regardless.

Aer cursed her morbid curiosity as she travelled down south. Ezrael had told her much of the past, but revealed little about the tribes current situation. She... Wanted to know. Had to know. Her eyes were set on returning to the tribe lands. Not necessarily the tribes itself just yet, though. She would judge them and consider.

TRIVIA
• The scar on her side was caused by mother dearest, when her and her sister Neith foolishly confronted Aujir before the big last battle. She was skewered by an icicle.
• Despite her pacifism she is a very experienced fighter and efficient at ending them quickly - by either incapacitating the enemy or freeing herself and fleeing the scene. If possible Aer will resort to non-violent ways of combat or do whatever is the least likely to cause lasting damage. The thought of fighting and violence makes her anxious, to say the least.
• Has bad recurring nightmares, and thusly often trouble sleeping.

ROLEPLAY INFORMATION

ROLEPLAY EXAMPLE { Aiolos | The-Golden-Butterfly }

Even though the sun hung high, it was bristling cold, with harsh winds whipping through the bare trees. By now, the snow laid impressively thick, making navigating through it somewhat difficult. Aiolos was moving swiftly though, leaving behind Air Tribe camp, to once again look for soothing solitude. The slender tom still wasn't used to so many cats in one place. His new tribe-mates weren't necessarily needy or overly dependent on him, but their presence was a bit tiring. It would take some time getting used to it. Then again, he had been always been a cat his fellow exiles depended on, asking him for help whenever they couldn't handle themselves in their newfound exile. He didn't hate it, it was just... a bit overwhelming.

Aiolos was reminded of that patrol. The visible resentment a certain Green-Air showed towards him. He was wondering what he did to invoke the big toms anger. He had a hunch, though. A stranger comes to claim leadership, wanders off all the time and then orders them to leave their home? How preposterous. Aiolos would have to prove his trustworthiness first. And while he didn't intend to let his whole tribe down, he was still feeling a little anxious. Spirits, if only Ezrael was here to help him. But if he was, he would be leader instead of him. Doing a way better job. The grey tom sighed and stopped under the cover of some brushes, sitting down. His ears twitched, ready to alert him of any noises around him. And he waited. He didn't quite know what he was waiting for, though.

Aiolos waited for a few more eventless minutes, before he could hear some foreign noises. His ears perked up, his muscles stiffened, ready to jump. The noises were quiet, and sounded like a cat was nearby, scaling something. A few moments later he heard a yelp, then saw a red figure fall down right in his field of vision. The tom jumped up, startled, staring back at the cat sprawled out in front of him. He bit back any kind of noise, his surprise, and then his amusement. It didn't take long to identify the unfortunate climber - Ross. Huh. What a chance meeting. "Are... you alright?" Aiolos asked after a few moments of silence. His concern was genuine, even though he would be lying to say that he wasn't amused at the situation. The grey tom sat back down and cleaned his paw quietly while waiting for an answer, balancing his position on his hindlegs. His rather short tail curled around his body when a cold breeze whipped through the brush, shuddering for a brief moment.
